Okay McGovern Family, get ready for a million photos from the week.
It has been a busy week here with no shortage of fun-filled moments. One of our LEAD2s has been taking up photo duty during the day when he isn't shadowing Ohana and he's been doing a great job of capturing our campers. He's made the circuit of activities a couple times a day and made sure to document every event we have.
On Wednesday evening we had an indoor campfire led by the Campfire Committee and Marvel read a story to the camp before bedtime. The Campfire Committee runs the Wednesday fires that are usually after cookout, but because of rain Nightwing, Urb, and Stark whipped up some mac n' cheese. Lino enjoyed some leftovers today!
Thursday evening was Camp McGovern Presents, our world famous talent show that campers and staff can sign up for.
A group of campers showed how good they were at Foosball, there were a number of different magic acts that included some hilarious costuming, dances, a cup song (not that one, sorry Anna Kendrick), and SO much singing. There wasn't any Smash Mouth blaring this week, though. Some Chimney girls performed a clapping routine, Marvel debuted a song she wrote on the ukulele, and Strum played the guitar while Marvel and a camper sang along. Twist, Spinach, and a camper did the classic Spinach dance move.
The show was closed with Grimmauld and Greyjoy - better known by their stage name Grimjoy - singing A Whole New World. Dimples hosted and I think she had a costume change every time she came on and off stage. It was a night full of artistry and One Direction, as usual.
Our regular Friday Amazing Race kicked off this morning as campers traveled from Low Ropes to High Ropes, Archery to the Hallman to write thank you cards, and to their cabins to pack for home time tomorrow. Things were being collected from clotheslines, under beds, shelves, and all around camp to make sure our campers go home with everything they need.
This week's cabin challenge was to build a boat using only items from nature and as I walked down Cabin Line this morning I could spy some remnants of Sprocket's woven grass rope and all the sticks that were collected for the boats.
The afternoon kicked off with Attack of the Intergalactic Space Chickens, lead by some chickens who looked awfully similar to the campers in our LEAD and LEAD2 programs. Crispy and Spicy, however, were nowhere to be seen, so maybe they sent out troops instead of visiting us themselves this time.
Word at McGovern is that they were last spotted behind the Hallman, so keep an eye out for them in the sky, McGovern Family. After the campers were covered in "special chicken liquid" and the dust clouds subsided, everybody headed down to the waterfront to get clean.
It was on the bank of the Saugeen that this week's Stick It to the Pie winners were met with their pies. Improv got a delicious face full of muffin mix and Dimples got the ongoing favourite: mayonnaise.
Week 3 ended with another emotional and song-filled Final Campfire. I was working on cabin photos in the office when Twist called me down on the walkie, telling me that I was the only one who knew all the words to Land of the Silver Birch. So Momma Shout and I trucked up to Final and joined them for that song and the Camp McGovern song before it was snack and bedtime.
At our staff meeting on the weekend, when Twist asked how the campers were almost everybody put 10 fingers up out of 10, so know that it was a week full of ridiculousness (from someone other than Linoleum), fun, and meaningful experiences.
Wish us luck for the short week and see you tomorrow, McGovern Family!
