Session 1 June 30-July 3
So let’s kick start the blog with Gooooood day to all of our Camp McGovern family! Campers have finally arrived!!! What a way to start the summer. To begin with we had a short week but what a fun short week it was. We started with an hour and a half journey on a school bus where we were getting ready to greet the campers. When we arrived and the campers had got settled we played soccer Baseball, I mean its not necessarily a game that I am familiar with but it’s definitely a game that I would play again. The first day was a great one but we all know that at some point Spinaché was going to pop up with the camera for our cabin photos and we needed to be prepared for when she did. Of course everybody had to have their hair done to perfection. We were all asked to take a photo where we had cheesy grins and another photo where we pulled a silly face; this one was given out as one of the many memories of camp. There are so many activities that can be done at Camp McGovern and one of the activities’ that the campers love is… tie dye!!! It’s definitely one of if not the messiest activity but the outcome is amazing. Spinaché,Stamp and Squeaky taught both the campers and some of the councillors how to tie Dye. Everybody did a great job. Every day is different when it comes to meal time we go from singing 'Moose, Alpaca, Moose, Moose, Alpaca, Unicorn' to eating food with no utensils... no it's not as easy as it seems but that's what makes Camp a great place to be. In the morning after competing with everybody outside the hall man to get inside first, after everybody has eaten breakfast, our Archery chief Pollen shouts ... What's our favourite time of the day? The whole of the Hallman screamed SPARKLE TIMEEEEE, this is where the different cabins are given different places to tidy/ clean. As the end of session one is quickly approaching I think that the councillors can admit that they have a routine of questions repeating in their brains ... 'Are you wearing sun cream?' 'Have you got your water bottle' 'Have you got your towel?' 'Have I got my fanny pack?' Oh the list goes on. Final campfire is here, the time had come and we he had to say fair well to our first group of campers. At this campfire the campers had the opportunity to say their thank yous to their councillors and good bye to their new friends. This year we have introduced a new program, creative writing which is ran by DJ Slides and at the end of the camp fire a poem is written about how the campers feel about camp and what they loved about it. A few of the campers sang and played the instruments to a song they had learned in their music class which is ran by Sorbét. Every camper has done so well this week! I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer but until next time… Open closed doors to discover new adventures. DJ Slides X
