HOW TO PREPARE FOR CAMP
If we expect to do superior work or provide the best possible experiences for the campers we are leading, we cannot wait until the last minute to prepare. To be a first rate Camp Counselor we need to come prepared to our jobs. Now is the time to mentally situate yourself for the environment you are about to enter.
What is preparation?
Preparation is first making sure your reasons for working at camp are the right ones. Decide here and now that you are coming for the campers. To mentor and lead them in a positive direction, to make a difference in their lives and help them develop their potential. Decide that you are coming to seek personal development; to acquire new skills push your limits and develop character.
Preparation is convincing yourself, so that you can convince others that being a camp counselor (or camp staff) is the most significant thing you can do at this point in your life.
Preparation is compiling ideas, games, activities, stories, skits, songs…anything that you might have need of to interact with campers this summer. If you've got them at your fingertips…you are more apt to use them when the moment arises.
* Create a file folder, binder or card catalogue that is easy to access
Preparation is reading your camp manual and other relevant reference materials during training week to ensure you get all you can out of the information provided.
Preparation is deciding that every camper you encounter will be really important to you and that they deserve to feel that way: seeking ways to add something positive to every camper’s life every day.
A good leader studies, thinks about and gets completely involved in all aspects of their job and goes to camp prepared to do their best.

POLICE CHECK
All staff contracts (including return staff) are conditional upon a positive result from a police clearance check on the staff member. Police checks need to be recent (within a month) of the first day of camp and must be available on or before your arrival at camp.
To do so, please visit your local police station and request to have this completed. They will require 2 pieces of identification and, in some cases, you may be required to pay a fee (usually about $25). It may take up to 14 days to complete so budget your time accordingly.
* Failure by the staff member to disclose a child abuse investigation, a criminal charge or a finding of guilt of a criminal offence, will render your contract null and void.
