Health Issues

Health and Safety are always emphasized. Parents are to provide proper medical insurance. The camper's medical form is included with your Registration package. Please complete it carefully. If there are any changes in the camper's medical condition after you complete this form, you are responsible to inform the office, in writing, of these changes. All medications must be handed in to the Medical Office. Campers may not keep any medications in the cabin. McGovern has a registered Nurse on site, who will provide basic health care; a Hospital is located only 15 minutes away, in the event of an emergency.

Communication

Campers enjoy receiving letters especially through the mail during their stay at camp. However, it can take up to 7 days to reach the camp. We recommend sending letters a week in advance. We will hold letters until your child arrives and attempt to distribute them equally throughout the week.

Mailing address for camper mail:

Camp McGovern
422 102 Concession 6
R.R. #1 Elmwood, Ontario
N0G 1S0

Attention: (camper’s name)

Please note: it is very important that you put “Camp McGovern” on the address as the post office will return your mail if this is not identified.

Can I send a fax to my child?

You may fax your letter. However, a $1.00 charge will be applied to each incoming fax. Our Fax # is: 1-519-369-6221, please include full name of camper on fax. Campers are unable to fax back.

Can I phone my camper?

No. Unless it is a special circumstance, we do not allow campers to have access to the phone. Children who are away from home are more subject to home-sickness if they have verbal contact with someone from home. We are more than happy to give you an update on your child’s situation, however we would encourage you not to call (except in special situations such as birthdays or emergencies).

Tuck Shop

Each afternoon campers will receive a snack product from our tuck shop. The snack is planned by the kitchen and includes such items as, frozen yogurt cups, granola bars, crackers and cheese, dried fruit mix, popsicles, freezies, and ice cream sandwiches. There is always a fresh fruit choice offered with each tuck time. If you have certain restrictions for your child please record this on your registration from. If your child is unable to have any of these products (i.e., Diabetic child), please provide us with a list of alternatives and we will be sure to make that accommodation for your child.
